Make This Your First Stop; It May Be Your Last....
Woody's is without doubt Philadelphia's finest "Gay Bar." It's both Friendly and Hot. The drinks are good, the bartenders are hot, the music rocks, and the company it keeps (i.e., the people who frequent it) is so varied, so very fine, and so very safe yet delicious. If you like to talk, drink, dance, and hook-up, this is the place for you. Locals love it....if you are an "out-of-towner," you can't afford to miss it.
Woody's - The Cheers of Gay Philly
"Where everybody knows your name..." Go there a few times and you will know what I mean. the drinks are cold and the hearts are warm. Everybody is out to have a good time and they go about it in a friendly and respectful way. There is something going on almost every night. Monday's is Karaoke with Sallotta Tee, and everyone wants to sing. From a Soprano singing Broadway tunes to even a Tony Soprano Singing Sinatra you will find it all. Oh, and did I mention Mr. Gay Philadelphia is the DJ that night. Wednesday is Teen night and the staff is very careful with their customers that night. This event is on the 2nd floor and no liquor is served at all up there. The teens entering go through 3 different checkpoints, nothing is carried in without being checked. this of course is all to ensure that their patrons have a good and safe time. Thursday is Latino night. they even have a country line dancing night on Friday. Then comes the weekend and I have three words for that. PARTY, PARTY, PARTY! Don't miss out on the fun. "And they're always glad you came. You wanna be where you can go and everybody's all the same. You wanna go where everybody knows your name."
Not worth your time
Don't waste a bit of your time at this place. It was mediocre before the new owners took over, and now, it's just God awful. The redecorated upstairs now looks like it was designed for the "stereotypical gay club" by straight people with no taste. The drinks are very overpriced and much smaller now that the new owners have taken over. So you are now paying more for less. The music is terrible, the atmosphere is less than desirable, and the clientele is becoming more and more snotty and stuck up.
Packed and Interesting
Even on weeknights this place is jumping with [mostly] wall to wall men of all ages. The guys are all types; something to appeal to everyone. Friendly crowd, too. Only time I didn't feel the love was on the second floor where there's a lounge in the far back that has door men or guards posted to keep people out with various weird excuses. Don't know what's up with that but the rest of the bar -- and it's a big one with several rooms -- was plenty of fun. The most crowded of the gay spots I hit in Philly.
